Let’s talk about the fact that everybody has worn a cap at some point in time and they certainly do serve many purposes. There are many varieties although many people just naturally assume there is just one type.

First of all, they come in different materials such as the leather baseball cap and these are often made from smooth cowhide leather and normally you will find that one size fits all. Then there’s the traditional cotton type and here once again, we’re referring to the baseball caps and then there’s the flex fit cotton, which allows the scalp to breath and is ideal for summer.

Then there are the caps that go with uniforms for example a Police Officers cap, a Railroad Engineer’s cap or even a Soldiers cap. Of course, we mustn’t forget about Sherlock Holmes cap, which this particular one most often was made from 100% wool.

Next, we need to consider the various Russian caps as well. Many times these were made from either fine fur or Persian lamb for example these were extremely warm which was a requirement of the Russian winters. They come in a variety of styles as well and so have ear loops on them for those extra bitter cold days. Some are combination of leather as well as fur.

We certainly can’t forget about the fisherman caps which are most often made from various materials such as cotton wool or leather mostly designed for summer wear. Many of them are quite attractive and some have the plastic visor to them while others are the normal materials.

Going back to the leather caps, we shouldn’t forget about the old-style leather helmet caps and then we have to move on to the military caps such as the wetland or the desert then there’s the camouflage style as well. Most often, you can get these with military insignias, ranks badges and pins on them.

Then we can go back into history into the Civil War caps being, as these have become quite the collectors items for example there is a forage cap or the Koran too along with many others.

Of course we all know the winter ones that we are most familiar with which also includes the rare age-old buffalo plaid railroad cap. Then naturally there are the various ski caps as well as sometimes they are called which are great during those winter months for extra warmth. Some have ear flaps that can be folded up in the warmer weather and just tucked under the sides.

Then we can’t forget about the summer driving cap or the famed golf caps, which are most often made from cotton linen although polyester knit is favored as well. These types of caps can also be purchased in wool for more towards the fall or the winter weather.
