Due to current advances in technology, more people are working from home than ever before. With growing markets that aim towards businesses who utilize telecommunication, as well as the growing trend toward online business, the options for finding an opportunity at home seem endless. Yet many at home workers often find the reality of working at home more strenuous than you might think. Working in your own home environment is often less structured than an office or business place. When not forced to work on a fixed schedule, it is often easier to fall into a schedule or routine that is sluggish, or otherwise dysfunctional. Here are some tips that will help you stay on your toes when pursuing an opportunity at home.

1. Wake up early. It is proven that those who maintain a steady sleep schedule find it easier to get work done during the day. For most people the morning hours are the most productive hours of the day, as the internal clock begins to wind down around 4pm. In order to combat the onset of afternoon fatigue, it is good to take a half hour nap directly after an early lunch. You will emerge well rested, with energy and enough nutrients to get you through the rest of the day, as the sleep will give you rest as your body digests.

2. Avoid freight train syndrome. While it is true that a little bit of caffeine in the mornings can help get you going, caffeine taken in high amounts leads to jitters, anxiety, inability to focus, and the inevitable crash afterwards. Stimulants such as caffeine and cigarettes, when taken in too high of amounts can actually have a sedating effect. It is difficult to take advantage of an opportunity at home, when your energy levels are constantly fluctuating.

3. Organize your work space. Throw out everything that is not crucial to your work, and keep the clutter to a minimum. Give yourself a lot of legroom, as well as breathing room. Though I am no proponent of feng shui, it is proven that people function better psychologically when in an organized space. Keep your workspace well ventilated, and have all of your tools within reach. These organizational habits will significantly cut back on wasted time.

4. Eat protein with every meal. Protein gives you energy, while stimulating your metabolism. It is highly effective to snack regularly on something dense in protein such as nuts or light cheese. People with a diet high in protein tend to be healthier physically, while also able to maintain concentration to a higher degree.
