If I had been able to interject before she got angry, I could have made a joke about my error and convinced her I was only teasing in the first place.

If I made the same mistake now I would not tense up and look guilty. Instead, I would just tell the girl that the name I had called her by was the name of my favorite relative and she had so many of the same great qualities. This save would not only erase the mistake it would score me bonus points for the compliment.

Not being perfect is its own reward

Guys who never act natural when out on a date with a woman cannot expect her to keep coming back around. There is really no need to hide your flaws or try to act perfect.
