A man can become infertile due to several reasons including some chronic ailments and the administration of certain drugs; however, one of the reasons for infertility in men is the production of anti sperm antibodies; this is an autoimmune condition much like an allergic reaction. In a man who suffers from this condition, the body gets sensitized to sperms and the immune system develops antibodies because it perceives the sperms to be a threat; , these anti bodies are mobilized to destroy the sperms.

Normally, the sperms are protected from the onslaught of the immune system by a barrier in the testicles. However, in men who develop anti sperm anybodies, the immune cells manage to go through the barrier to access the sperms. These sperms have a unique surface made of antigens which makes them easily identifiable to the immune cells. These antibodies detect their presence and trigger a response. The antibodies adhere to the surface of the sperms spoiling their function and quality. How far the effect is felt will depend on the location on the body of the sperm that the antibodies latch on to. For instance, if the antibodies adhere to the tail of the sperm; they are found clumped together due to immobility. On the other hand, if they stick to the head of the sperm ; they prevent it from binding with the egg and penetrating its surface and thus prevent fertilization of the eggs.

The development of anti sperm antibodies is a fairly common condition that is observed in almost 10% of men who complain of infertility. One of the primary reasons for the development of sensitivity to the sperms is the cervical mucus found in some ladies. Not all women have this specific type of mucus which triggers an auto immune response in the man’s body leading to the development of the anti sperm antibodies. Almost 40 % of couples who complain of unexplained infertility were found to have this problem.

There are also other factors such as an injury to the testicles or the twisting of the testicular sack that may lead to the production of anti sperm antibodies. Another reason is any infection that may destabilize the immune system. It has been found that many times vasectomy reversal may also cause the condition along with other surgical procedures such as cancer, varicocele, undescended testicles, congenital absence of the vase deferens and testicular biopsy. Almost 70% of the men who have had vasectomy reversal were found to have anti sperm antibodies. The presence of these immune cells can easily be diagnosed through a semen sample; once found the doctor will certainly recommend a cervical test for your partner to find out about the presence of cervical mucus that may be causing the condition.

Once the analysis proves the existence of anti sperm antibodies it may not e easy to treat the condition. For one, it calls for the prescription of high doses of corticosteroids and these can have long standing and often disastrous ramification on your health. However, the therapy can be used to temporarily restore fertility but it is certainly not a permanent solution. Like all other auto immune disorders a cure for this condition eludes medical science and until then prevention is the best cure. Do not get a vasectomy done unless you are absolutely positive about your decision to not have children in future. Vasectomy is a permanent form of contraception and even though it ca be reversed, there may be some complications. If you do decide to go for the reversal procedure, make sure that you get it done as soon as you can after the vasectomy so improve your chances of success after the surgery.

Finally, if you are diagnosed with anti sperm antibodies after your vasectomy reversal procedure, you don’t have to be disheartened; you can still have a child through one of the other fertility treatment such as in vitro fertilization. The antibodies do not have any effect on the success of this procedure because the sperm is washed before the procedure to remove the antibodies so that the eggs can be fertilized properly. The same procedure; that is the washing of the sperm may also be used in another procedure known as intrauterine insemination in which the sperm is injected into the uterus.

If you have had a vasectomy done in the past but would now like to have children; there is hope in the form of a reversal surgery. This is a very common situation and almost 5% of all men who choose vasectomy as a mean s of contraception change their mind and opt for the reversal procedure. That is an astounding 25,000 men who go for vasectomy reversal each year. There can be several reasons for this change of heart from an improvement in your financial well being to something life changing like a divorce and from something tragic like a child passing away in an accident or out of illness or something as simple as the desire to add to your brood. Ether way, vasectomy reversal can come to your rescue and help you to regain your fertility. The procedure is fairly simple; however, it is important to understand that it does not always end up in a pregnancy even though the success rate of the procedure is very high; there is always a possibility of some complications that may interfere with your chances of fathering a child naturally.

Yet, the fact remains that several men choose this way to achieve unaided pregnancy; there are several factors that can impact your chances of having a child after the procedure. One of them is your age, your age when the original procedure was performed and how old you are when the reversal surgery is conducted will have a bearing on your chances of success. The older you get, the lesser will be your chances of natural conception. Another crucial factor is the duration between the original procedure and the reversal surgery; the duration is inversely proportional to the success rate of the reversal procedure.

In other words, the longer you wait for vasectomy reversal the lower will be your chances of conceiving naturally. So, most doctors will only tell you to choose vasectomy as a form of contraception only if you are absolutely sure that you do not want to have children in future. Generally, it has been observed that men who get the reversal surgery done within one to three years of the vasectomy stand a 76% chance of regaining their fertility and a 50% chance of fathering a child. As opposed to this, men who spend a decade or more before taking the decision to reverse the vasectomy, lower their chances of fathering a child to just 30%, so even though it is not impossible to have a child then, your chances are certainly diminished.

One of the reasons for the lower rate of success is the possible complication that may arise at the pot of the original surgery. A very common issue is the development of scar tissue and the accumulation of fluid due to a leakage in the clamped ends of the vas deferens, both of these can result in a blockage in one end of the vas deferens; once this happens merely joining the severed ends of the vas deferens will not lead to normal sperm flow.

In this scenario the doctor will try to bypass the blockage by connecting one end if the tube directly to the epididymis; depending on the damage in this area due to fluid accumulation; this may or may not be successful. Another issue is your age which can slow down sperm production; this is natural and happens in all men. Even though a man’s virility does not decrease as rapidly as the woman’s ability to produce viable eggs it does go down as you age so it is important to get the surgery done as soon as you can after the vasectomy procedure.

Even though the surgery is fairly simple like all surgical procedure it is not without risks so don’t take the decisions of reversing a vasectomy on whim because there may be some physical ramifications of a botched surgery.

There are several reasons why a person would consider a vasectomy reversal such as the untimely death of a child, divorce, change in partners, better financial condition or simply the desire to have more children. Fortunately, the advancements in medical science have given us the opportunity to have more children even after a vasectomy; something that was quite impossible until a few years ago. A lot of men worry about the cost of the procedure, the success rate and the possible risks involved in it. So here is an honest look at what vasectomy reversal entails including how much you will have to pay for the surgery:

How is a vasectomy reversal procedure conducted?
To put it simply, through a vasectomy reversal, you are trying to undo what was done in the vasectomy. In other words, in the original procedure, the vas deferens tube was severed to stop the flow of sperms but in the reversal procedure the tube is joined so that the sperms can flow back into the prostrate glands. However, the surgery is not as simply as the explanation. There are several factors that have to be considered, for instance, if you change your mind a couple of years after the surgery, even though sperms may still be produced in your body; they may not be healthy enough to cause pregnancy. So the procedure is essentially conducted in three steps:

The Examination: Here the doctor will not only give your physical examination but also if it has been ten or more years since the original procedure, a drop of fluid from the scortum will be collected to ensure the presence, volume and quality of sperms. Once the doctor determines that the sperms are viable, you can go ahead with the surgery; however, if there are no or unhealthy sperms found in the fluid, the doctor will tell you to consider alternate options of fertility.

The Surgery:
The procedure does not take more than three hours to be completed; it is performed under the influence of general or local anesthesia and you will be allowed to go home the same day. There are two types of procedures that can be conducted and the surgeon can take a call only after the scortum has been opened. The first procedure is the vasovasostomy in which the two ends of the vas deferens are reconnected with the help of tiny sutures. The second procedure is called vasoepididymostomy; this is conducted when there is a blockage in one end of the vas deferens that will impede the flow of sperms to the prostrate glands even after the tubes are connected. So to bypass the blockage, the surgeon will connect one end of the vas deferens to the epididymis; since the procedure is more complicated hence the chances of success are also lower.

After Surgery:
After the surgery, you should be able to go back to your normal routine within a month. However, for the first month after the surgery, you will not be able to indulge in sexual activities or undertake rigorous physical activities of any kind; this includes exercise regimens, swimming etc. Even though you can take a shower 2 days after the surgery, you will not be able to use the bathtub for a month. There will be some amount of pain and discomfort for the first two or three days, so the doctor will ask you to take bed rest or lime down as far as possible but painkillers like Advil or Tylenol will help to alleviate the pain. After a month the first semen analysis will be conducted to see if sperms can be found in the seminal fluid. This routine will continue every few weeks till sperms are observed in the semen. The doctor will try to ascertain the quality and the volume of sperms. While in some cases people have achieved conception within a month of the surgery; it would be unrealistic to harbor such hopes because it generally takes eight to twelve months for sperms to be observed i the semen, depending on the type of reversal procedure performed.

There are several fighting styles and disciplines in the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Karate and Wrestling just to name a few. It is very common for the fighters of MMA to train with different coaches because of the different techniques and disciplines used in the ring by various fighters.

The fighters are not trained only in the style of fighting but overall fitness including training for stamina and endurance, strength and power and body conditioning to take the punishments dished out by opponents fight matches. Some of these fighting techniques are described herebelow.

The Clinch is actually a dreadful lock or hold on the neck of the opponent to keep him from moving out of striking range. This move can also be used while trying a takedown and striking the opponent using punches, elbow strikes and knees to the opponent’s body. The clinch is more commonly used by wrestlers and muay thai kick boxers to immobilize their opponents while executing other punishing moves or strikes.

Sprawl and brawl is a fighter’s aim to avoid takedowns and to remain in a standing position to strike his opponent. He tries to avoid takedowns by sprawling and other defensive grappling moves.

The sprawl is used when a fighter shoots a takedown aimed at the sprawl and brawl fighter’s legs. The sprawl and brawl fighter shoots his legs back and positions himself on top of his opponent’s body to avoid the takedown. This move is often used by muay thai boxers, karate exponents and wrestlers.

Submission grappling is usually used by fighters to takedown or to grapple his opponent into a submission hold and forces the opponent to submit, usually in severe pain. While there are fighters, especially the heavier ones who use this grappling technique to overwhelm their opponents, others will use other techniques that are equally or even more devastating.

While fighters such as karate exponents may use more straight punches and kicks at their opponent rather than grappling and takedowns, muay thai fighters are usually more feared because they are skilled to use all parts of their bodies to strike their opponents no holds barred. This sometimes even includes the head as in a head butt.

Fighters trained in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are also very much respected. This is a martial art, combat sport and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially on the ground fighting. This is why when fighters meet an opponent who is well skilled in jiu jitsu, they will have to avoid getting grappled and taken down to the ring mat where a exponent’s lock is excruciatingly painful and almost impossible to break.

This art was actually of Japanese origin and it promotes the principle that a weaker and smaller exponent can defend himself well and even attack successfully against a bigger, stronger opponent by using the science of leverage and other techniques such as joint locks and chokeholds.

So as you can see, a successful Mixed Martial Arts competitor must not only be trained in his own style of fighting techniques, but must also learn how to strike and defend against other styles and disciplines of the martial arts world and that is a tall order indeed.
