Ben and Carl are friends. Ben is 21 and Carl is 22 years old. They do lots of things together. They like to challenge each other. Actually, Carl does most of the challenging. Ben just goes along with most of his schemes to prove that he was not afraid. He wanted to keep Carl as a friend, and keep his own ego intact.

Most of the time the challenges were harmless. They would see who could talk to the prettiest girl or who could throw the longest football pass. Every once in a while the challenges were borderline stupid. One time Ben was riding down the street, when he saw a club with a bunch of motorcycles parked outside.

The bikes looked really cool and Ben wondered what was going on inside the place. The sign on the building read Delta Motorcycle Club. He knew this was an opportunity to beat Carl at a challenge. He drove over and picked up Carl. They rode by the club. That is when he made the challenge. He said I bet you want go in that club.

Carl said are you stupid, those guys do not want outsiders. Ben said I guess I win, I went in there yesterday. They did not say anything to me. Carl said you liar prove it. Ben reached in his pocket and pulled out a coin. He said they sell these in there and I bought this one yesterday. Carl was starting to believe Ben. He could not let Ben have the satisfaction of beating him.

Ben persisted, he said I guess I know who is the man. Carl said OK punk, Ill go in there just to shut you up. Carl got out of the car and went up to the building and walked in. The doors closed behind him. At first, everything seem all right. He thought, man I bet Ben was lying. I do not see any place to by coins. To his surprise the place was well organized.

Then all of a sudden, he heard a bell ring. An announcement came over the public address system. It said, we have our next contestant. It seems that they have real fights on Tuesdays. Whoever walks in the door next had to fight the previous winner. It was Tuesday and Carl had walked in the door next. 2 guys came toward him to take him to the center of the club where they kept the fight ring.

He spent the next few minutes trying to talk his way out of the contest. He finally had to pay them 75 dollars to let him leave the club in one piece. They escorted him to door and told him never to set foot in there again. When he came out, Ben asked him how it went. He said you should know you went in yesterday.

He just looked at Ben and said you owe me 75 dollars. He also told Ben never to bring him there again. Ben persisted, and Carl finally told him the whole story. Ben is still Carls friend but he has quit the challenges out fear that someone might get hurt.

If you have friends that like to frequent places that are obviously dangerous, you may want limit your contact with them. Always have a self defense and safety strategy in mind in case of emergency.

Dean was born a small man with a bad attitude. He was about 5 feet 1 inches and at the most 150 pounds. He was really just a sheep in wolfs clothing. He always pretended to be braver than he actually was. You might say he had a pit bull attitude in a poodle body.

If somebody did something he did not like, he would rant and rave pretending to be highly upset. Everyone knew him and they mostly just ignored him and went on with their activities. He had a need to show everybody how tough he was. His wife knew the real story. The truth is he was quite tamed and occasionally been known to flee from cats.

She was careful not to let that get out, because she knew it would bruise his ego. She decided that only a precious few would know, so he continued to be the bad guy that he was not. People did not fear him. They mostly just ignored him. When he drove, and some one cut him off, he would yell and shake his fist at them.

One day he and his wife were driving home from the shopping mall, when an SUV pulled out in front of Dean almost causing an accident. Dean could not believe it. He was determined to get even with this guy. He pulls up even with the guy at the next stop sign and started yelling and making verbal threats.

He was yelling and screaming at the SUV. The guy in the SUV just looked at him at first and tried to ignore him. Dean was persistent. He must have struck a chord with the guy. The guy put his SUV in park and got out of the truck and started walking toward Dean. The guy was about 6 feet 8 inches tall and 290 pounds and looked liked he carried 50 pound weights in his pockets.

Deans wife wondered, what has he gotten us into now. The guy was visibly pist off and Dean knew it. He walked over to Deans car and motioned him to roll down the window. Dean did not comply. The guy was having a fit on the outside of Deans car. Dean tried to leave but the guy stood in front of their car.

Dean was frightened but the only thing he could do was stay in the car. His bad attitude had suddenly been replaced with fear. At that moment a patrol car pulled up. Dean was relieved. The cop got out and began talking to the big guy. He must have told the cop a believable story. The cop asked the guy to get into his vehicle move on.

The guy looked back at Dean with a nasty gaze. He got in his vehicle and left. Dean never learned his lesson he continues to pretend to be the bad boy of the area. His wife rarely rides anywhere with him any more.

Most people do not go looking for trouble. Attitude issues can get you in trouble. It always seems like people with biggest egos are not really what they seem to be. A little ego management will go a long way towards keeping you out of trouble.

Escalating an already bad situation solves nothing. Unless you have a clear purpose for doing so, it is best not to make threats, especially ones that you can not materialize. If you are approached with a threat be prepared to defend yourself. You goal is not to defeat the perpetrator but to allow time for you to escape.

Vitya was a 40 year old Russian immigrant to the United States. He had lived in a midsized the Midwestern City for over 6 years. He worked in a factory not far from his home. He was granted citizenship in this country and was proud to be an American Citizen. After living in tyranny in the Soviet Union most of his life, he was grateful to be in a country where he could be himself. He lived in a decent neighborhood full of hard working people.

Most of them accepted him as another American in search of his dream. Because they shared some of the same values, he was a perfect fit to his community. It was a neighborhood that looked after the people who lived there. Vitya was a peaceful man who had lived through decades of persecution and violence in the Soviet Union.

On the street where he lived, was one person who always caused trouble for Vitya. He seemed to have a problem with anyone that was not born in the United States and he did not mind showing it. He would often pitch insults at Vitya. He called him Rusky and many times told him to go back to where he came from. He would even send his dog out to chase him when he walked by his house. The guy had real issues, which were escalating out of control.

Once he even threw a bottle at Vitya. Vitya tried to ignore him, because he knew the rest of the neighbors were on his side. As a matter of fact, they did not care for the guy either. They saw him as just a bully causing trouble in an otherwise peaceful community. One day Vitya was walking down the street when he was approached by the bully. He had obviously been drinking. He said I am going to show you how America really works Rusky.

He pulled a club from under his coat and started to swing at Vitya. Vitya move around trying to dodge the club, but the guy kept swinging. A number of the neighbors were watching and some had already called the police. They were a tight knit group, because most of them worked in the same place.

They were not about to let one of their own get hurt. Some of the neighbors came to help Vitya. They surrounded the guy and he tried to use the club on them. They were bound and determined to hold this guy until the police arrived.

They were finally able to tackle the guy and keep him under control until the police arrived. They arrested him for assault. He still lives on the street and vows to get even with Vitya and the others someday. The neighbors go on with their lives, but they keep a close eye on him. They look forward to the day when this guy leaves the community.

Some people find reasons to dislike others if they are different. It is not just limited to the United States; it is worldwide. The United States is a melting pot of mostly hard working people from all over the world. You may have some bullies living in your neighborhood right now. Have a plan to defend yourself if violently approached.
